Ambulance Victoria Enterprise Agreement Update

The Ambulance Victoria Operational Enterprise Agreement 2020 (The Agreement) was recently voted up by employees.

The next step is for Ambulance Victoria to lodge the the Agreement with the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for approval.

An enterprise agreement must be approved by the FWC before it can commence operation. The approval process includes a point-in-time assessment by the FWC, which requires that each employee will be better off overall under the enterprise agreement compared to the modern award. The relevant modern award is the Ambulance and Patient Transport Award 2010.

Once the FWC have reviewed the Agreement, the FWC will notify Ambulance Victoria and the AEAV that the Agreement has been approved. The time this takes can be variable. By way of example, the Ambulance Victoria (Management and Administrative Staff) Enterprise Agreement was lodged with the FWC on 10 August 2020 and approved on 31 August 2020.

The AEAV understands the Agreement will be lodged with the FWC this week.

Once the FWC approves the Agreement:

  • the wage rates for operational classifications will increase by 2% per annum from the first full pay period on or after 1 February 2020, 1 February 2021, 1 February 2022 and 1 February 2023 respectively;
  • a working group will be established between AV and the AEAV to discuss the spares issue; and
  • a working group will be established to discuss AV’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.

An operational date of February 2020 for the first wage increase will mean that members will be entitled to back pay. The AEAV will advise members when the agreement is approved, as back pay will not be provided until after that date.
