For many people at Ambulance Victoria, workload is high, with job creep becoming increasingly common. Job creep occurs when additional tasks are gradually added to your workload over time, or when reduced staffing leaves fewer workers responsible for the same duties.
UWU has initiated several Workload Reviews under Clause 42 of the Ambulance Victoria Management and Administrative Agreement (AVMA) to ensure that AV undertake assessments of members’ workload and ensure duties remain fair and sustainable.
Excessive workload is not just an operational issue. It is a health and safety matter, and under the OHS Act, employers must provide a safe working environment. This includes managing risks to psychological health such as job overload, fatigue, and sustained work pressure.
If your workload is unreasonable or unsafe, you have the right to raise this and seek action from AV. If you’re experiencing high workload or job creep, contact the union to discuss how a Workload Review can help mitigate against burning out.
