Recently, the union has written to Ambulance Victoria requesting workload reviews for Accounts Receivable, the ARCS and BAT Team under Clause 42.2 of the enterprise agreement.
Employees may request a formal review of their workload if they believe it is unreasonable and impacting their health, safety, or welfare.
Since September 2025, multiple workforce requests to increase staffing levels have been significantly delayed or declined by Ambulance Victoria without explanation.
The ARCS team manages 130,000 – 150,000 patient contacts annually, many involving traumatic or highly sensitive content. The work carries substantial emotional labour, but the team has been operating without appropriate staffing levels.
Approximately 40% of the workforce is employed on fixed‑term contracts that are nearing expiry, while changes to AV’s recruitment processes now require CEO sign‑off for roles that are already fully budgeted for. This unnecessary bureaucratic red tape is causing prolonged vacancies and placing unacceptable strain on Support Staff, who are being forced to shoulder excessive workloads.
70% of clerical roles within Ambulance Victoria are held by women, who are being directed to absorb additional tasks despite not having the capacity to do so. This is a serious health and safety risk, and highlights AV’s ongoing and unacceptable undervaluation of women’s contributions within the emergency ambulance service.
