Proposed Medium Acuity Transport Services (MATS) Program

The AEAV met recently with AV, where they announced their intention to pilot a Medium Acuity Transport Service (MATS) program. This service would see Grads on the Order of Merit (sitting in the bottom 30 – 40) being paired with Paramedics transitioning to retirement to respond to Code 2 & 3’s. These Grads may then be afforded an opportunity to progress to the GAP program if no issues are identified in the first 12 months.

AV are aiming to kick this proposal off in September, and have proposed they start with 4 Metro branches with crews working 10 hour shifts commencing at 10am, 11 am or midday on a 4 on 4 off basis.  If this is successful, their plan is to expand further across Metro and major rural centers. The total package would employ 165 staff.

HERE is a link to the presentation from AV outlining the proposal.

We have raised a number of concerns about the proposal, not least is the fact that they have not consulted with staff about the proposed plan and implementation of the proposal. Please find below correspondence from the AEAV about this proposal. If you have concerns you wish to raise, please contact us via email at [email protected]
